Carnegie Mellon Picked Seventh in UAA Preseason Men’s Basketball Poll
Nov. 8 - (Rochester, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University Tartans have been picked seventh in the 2006-2007 University Athletic Association (UAA) men’s basketball preseason poll as announced Wednesday, November 8. The voting was conducted among the league’s head coaches.
The New York University men's basketball team will go into the 2006-07 season as the preseason favorite to win the UAA championship.
NYU, whose last UAA crowns came on back-to-back efforts in 1992-93 and 93-94, garnered 44 points on the strength of four first-place votes. The University of Rochester is the coaches' pick to finish second in the Association standings, registering 40 points with a first-place vote.
Brandeis University and Washington University in St. Louis finished tied for third in the preseason rankings with 37 points, with the Judges getting two first-place votes and the Bears receiving one.
Rounding out the remaining teams, in order, are the University of Chicago (27 points), Emory University (18), Carnegie Mellon (13), and Case Western Reserve University (eight).
Carnegie Mellon will open the 2006-2007 season Friday, November 18, as they travel to Washington & Jefferson College in the first day of the Western Pennsylvania Classic. Saturday the Tartans will travel to Allegheny College for day two of the Tournament as they play Grove City at 6:00 p.m.
