Men’s Basketball Roll Past Oberlin 91-65

Jan. 2 – (OBERLIN, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon men’s basketball team had four players score in double figures on their way to a 91-65 victory over Oberlin College Tuesday, January 2 in Oberlin, Ohio. The Tartans move to 7-3, as the Yeomen drop to 2-9.

The Tartans led from start to finish, but early in the first half the Yeomen trailed by two (8-6) before the Tartans rattled off eight straight to take a 16-6 lead with 11:38 to play in the half. Carnegie Mellon would continue their run and took a commanding 45-17 lead into the break, thanks to 64.3% shooting from the floor.

Sophomore Ryan Einwag (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and junior Geoff Kozak (Huntingdon, Pa.) combined for 21 of the Tartans first half points and shot 8-of-11 from the floor.

Carnegie Mellon started the second half where they left off. The Tartans would build a 64-30 advantage with 11:51 to play on a three point play by sophomore Terrance Bouldin-Johnson (Tukwila, Wash./O’Dea). The Tartans then rolled to the 91-65 victory.

Sophomores Jon Wolleben (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Einwag led the way for the Tartans with 16 points. Wolleben tied a career-high in points, while shooting 5-of-7 from the floor. Kozak and senior Brad Matta (White Oak, Pa./Serra Catholic) were the other two in double figures for Carnegie Mellon cashing in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The boards were controlled be the Tartans, as they hauled in 41 rebounds to the Yeomen 29. Carnegie Mellon finished the contest shooting 57.6% from the floor.

Carnegie Mellon will return home to host a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) opponents this weekend. The Tartans will host New York University on Friday, January 5 for an 8:00 p.m. tip and Brandeis University on Sunday, January 7 for a 12:00 p.m. tip.
