(Pittsburgh, Pa.) Carnegie Mellon University’s 2006 men’s basketball graduate Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Linsly School) signed this past week with CAB Madeira of the Portuguese Basketball League (EBL) to play professional basketball. Maurer ended the 2005-2006 campaign ranked second in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with 18.4 points per game. In two years with the Tartans, Maurer registered 929 points giving him 1,669 for his career. The Tartans’ assistant coach Kevin Byrne and 2005 graduate Eliot Goren were the other two Tartans under Wingen to play professional basketball. Byrne, a 1996 graduate of Carnegie Mellon, was a four-year letter winner in basketball. The 6-6 forward went on to lead the EBL in scoring during the 1997 season. Goren signed with Manchester Magic after the 2005 season.
Maurer reports to camp September 4.
