Young Tartans Fall to Chicago 100-69

Stats

Jan. 19 - (CHICAGO, Ill.) – In a night where nothing would fall for the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon, the University of Chicago took full advantage topping the visitors 100-69 in University Athletic Association (UAA) men’s basketball action Friday, January 19 at the Ratner Athletics Center in Chicago.

While making just 11% of their three-point attempts (1-of-9) and allowing Chicago (12-3, 3-1) to make 7-of-11, the Tartans (9-5, 2-2) fell behind by 20 in the first half of play.

Chicago opened the game with an 8-3 run, but sophomore guard Ryan Einwag (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led a Tartan charge in which he scored seven of the team’s next nine points to take a 12-11 advantage.

The Tartan lead was short lived as Chicago would build a 12-point advantage while Carnegie Mellon couldn’t find the hoop during a four-minute span. With 6:36 to go in the first, Jesse Meyer’s first of three treys in the period gave the Maroons their largest lead of the half at 21 points.

Chicago continued to have the hot hand in the second half making over 66% of their field goals and led by as many as 35 points in the game.

The Tartans did force the Maroons into 19 turnovers but control on the boards and three-point field goals seemed to make up the difference. Chicago out-rebounded the Cardinal and Gray 44-27 for the game and finished with 12 baskets from behind the arc against the UAA’s top ranked three-point field goal percentage defense.

Einwag finished the game with a game-high 20 points for the Tartans, while Meyer led four Chicago players in double figures with 16.

The Tartans continue their road trip with a game at Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, January 21 at 12 noon.
