Men's Basketball Ranked #23 in Nation by D3Hoops.com

Dec. 11 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team enters the D3Hoops.com top-25 in week three for the first time at 23rd. This marks the first top-25 ranking in school history by D3Hoops.com. The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.

The Tartans are off to a perfect start on the season at 9-0 overall and 1-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), marking the best start in school history. The Tartans started the 2003-2004 season 4-0 before dropping a 90-60 decision to Division I Robert Morris. Carnegie Mellon has won 15 straight non-conference regular season contests dating back to November 28 of last season.

Carnegie Mellon is led by a core of seniors. Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Linsly School) leads the Tartans with 20.6 points per game followed by Clayton Barlow-Wilcox (Brookline, Mass.) averaging 15.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. A.J. Straub (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) and Marques Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) are averaging 11.9 points per game respectively. Johnson has hauled in 6.8 rebounds per game, while dishing out 32 assists, three less than Barlow-Wilcox’s team leading 35.

Carnegie Mellon and their high power offense, averaging 91.6 points per game, will be idle until December 28 when they travel to Division I Ivy League powerhouse, Princeton University. The tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, New Jersey.
