Tartans Picked Fourth in UAA Preseason Men’s Basketball Poll
Oct. 31 - (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University Tartans have been picked fourth in the 2005 University Athletic Association (UAA) men’s basketball preseason poll. The voting was conducted among the league’s head coaches.
The University of Rochester received five first-place votes and tallied 47 points. Washington University (MO) received one first-place votes and totaled 40 points. Third place went to New York University with one first-place vote and 35 total points. The Tartans rounded out the top half of the poll with 31 points and one first-place vote.
The Tartans are coming off the best season in school history after finishing the 2004-05 campaign with a 19-7 record and 10-4 mark in the UAA. Carnegie Mellon had never had a winning record in the UAA or finished higher than third place until last year. With a 10-4 mark the Tartans finished in second place and recorded their first ever winning season in the UAA in 18 years. The 19 wins last season set a school record for most wins in a season.
Carnegie Mellon will open the 2005-2006 season Friday, November 18, as they travel to Grove City College to take on Washington & Jefferson College in the first day of the Western Pennsylvania Classic. Saturday the Tartans will host day two of the Tournament as they play Grove City at 8:00 p.m.
