Johnson Brings in UAA Weekly Honors
Dec. 11 - (PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University senior Marques Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. Marques was honored for his performance in leading the Tartans to three victories last week, continuing their best start in school history with a 9-0 record.
Johnson averaged 18 points, 9.3 rebounds, and four assists in the three games. Johnson scored 17 points in a 99-83 win over Lycoming College, posted his first career double-double of 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in a 110-83 triumph of Skidmore College, and scored a career-high 27 points (21 in the second half) in a 79-75 win over Union College. For the three-game set, Johnson shot 58 percent (22 of 38) from the floor and shot 76.9 percent (10 of 13) from the free-throw line.
Johnson marks the third Carnegie Mellon men's basketball player to receive UAA Athlete of the Week honors this season.
