Vision Statement

The Carnegie Mellon Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation will positively impact the evolving needs of society by teaching lifelong commitment to physical and intellectual well-being.

Mission Statement

To provide innovative programs that foster collaboration and serve the campus community; enhancing the educational experience, creating overall balance and developing character in the pursuit of excellence.

To teach values and problem-solving skills through participation in recreation, intramurals, club sports and NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic competition.

To prepare our students for academic and athletic excellence and success in all aspects of their lives.

Philosophy

Carnegie Mellon University supports intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the educational experience for student-athletes. The goal of the program is to provide an educational environment which fosters teamwork, collaboration, discipline, respect, personal responsibility, and sportsmanship. The department is committed to the full integration of athletics into the essence of higher education and to the values of cultural diversity and gender equity. The priority for the department as a whole is to help student-athletes reach their academic, athletic, and personal potential through their overall experience at Carnegie Mellon.
