Summer Pre-College-School of Art - Carnegie Mellon University

Summer Pre-College

The Summer Art & Design Pre-College program offers two 3 week terms

June-July & July-August

Summer program students should apply through the central CMU Pre-College Programs page.

Registration: open to high school students nationally who have completed 10th grade, and are between 16-18 years old. Students have the option to be housed on-campus in dormitories as part of their residency, or commute daily. The Summer Art & Design Pre-College program is run jointly between the School of Art & the School of Design, and centrally administered by the university.

Classes: Span drawing, painting, sculpture, animation, print media, digital photography, figure drawing, and more. These foundational courses are recommended to any student planning on studying fine art at the collegiate level.
Nude Models: The pre-college curriculum is meant to very closely mirror the first-year undergraduate program of study in Carnegie Mellon’s School of art. Our course work often requires that students work from nude models in classes such as drawing, painting, and sculpture. We expect all students to be respectful of one another, their instructors, and the models themselves in these instances. If a student is unable to participate in class because of nude models, it is their responsibility to approach the instructor ahead of time and receive an alternative assignment.
