BXA
Collectively the Bachelor of Computer Science and Arts (BCSA), Humanities and Arts (BHA), Bachelor of Science and Arts (BSA), and programs are grouped under the single heading of BXA IntercollegeDegree Programs.
The BXA curriculum has three main components: general core requirements, fine arts concentration requirements, and either humanities / sciences / computer science concentration requirements. BXA students have equal access to School of Art courses. Each student's course of study is structured so they can complete this rigorous hybrid program in four years.
General education, university and major concentration requirements for the BXA Interdisciplinary Degree Programs can be found on their website at: http://www.cmu.edu/interdisciplinaryBachelor of Humanities and Arts Degree (BHA)
The Bachelor of Humanities and Arts (BHA) interdisciplinary degrees is designed for academically and artistically talented students who want to develop their interest in the fine arts, while also pursuing studies in the humanities and social/behavioral sciences. The BHA program enables students to receive broader exposure to the liberal arts than is generally possible through a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Correspondingly, this degree enables broader exposure in the fine arts than is generally possible through a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Dietrich College (DC).
The BHA program combines the strengths of the College of Fine Arts (CFA) and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (DC). Students choose their fine arts concentration from among the five schools in CFA: Architecture, Art, Design, Drama, or Music. Students choose their humanities and social sciences concentration from the list of majors and minors offered by DC, or by self-designing an interdepartmental concentration. The most important aspect of the BHA program is for students to blend their interests, and to explore the connections between their chosen disciplines. The program also provides enough flexibility for students to broaden or deepen their concentrations, and to explore other areas in which they may be interested.
Students receive extensive advising support. The Director and Academic Advisor of the BXA Intercollege Degree Programs is the primary advisor and liaison between CFA and DC. Each student has two additional academic advisors: an advisor in the admitting school of CFA to guide their concentration in the arts, and an advisor in DC to guide their concentration in the humanities or social/behavioral sciences.
Bachelor of Science and Arts Degree (BSA)
The Bachelor of Sciences and Arts (BSA) degree combines the strengths of the two colleges and satisfies the needs of students who have strong interests in both the sciences and the arts. This degree is designed for students who are gifted in both the fine arts and the natural sciences or mathematics, and who have the interest and the exceptional ability to pursue both disciplines simultaneously.
The Bachelor of Science and Arts (BSA) interdisciplinary degree program combines the strengths of the College of Fine Arts (CFA) and the Mellon College of Science (MCS). Students choose their arts concentration from among the five schools in CFA: Architecture, Art, Design, Drama or Music. Students choose their science concentration from among the four departments in MCS: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematical Sciences, or Physics.
Students receive extensive advising support. The Director and Academic Advisor of the BXA Intercollege Degree Programs is the primary advisor and liaison between CFA and MCS. Each student has two additional academic advisors: an advisor in the admitting school of CFA to guide their concentration in the arts, and an advisor in MCS to guide their concentration in the sciences.
Bachelor of Computer Science and Arts Degree (BCSA)
The newest interdisciplinary degree program is the Bachelor of Computer Science and Arts, which provides a technical, critical and conceptual foundation for students interested in pursuing fields that comprehensively meld technology and the arts, such as game design, computer animation, computer music, interactive stagecraft, robotic art, and other emerging media.
The Bachelor of Computer Science and Arts (BCSA) interdisciplinary degree program combines the strengths of the College of Fine Arts (CFA) and the School of Computer Science (SCS). Students choose their arts concentration from among the five schools in CFA: Architecture, Art, Design, Drama or Music. Students choose their computer science concentration established by the School of Computer Science.Students receive extensive advising support. The Director and Academic Advisor of the BXA Intercollege Degree Programs is the primary advisor and liaison between CFA and SCS. Each student has two additional academic advisors: an advisor in the admitting school of CFA to guide their concentration in the arts, and an advisor in SCS to guide their concentration in computer science.
