The Teacher Academy Seeking Resident Teacher

Application Deadline: 18 April

Every day you work with some of our nation’s brightest and most ambitious college students, many of whom are currently pursuing career opportunities as graduation approaches.

We want to share this career opportunity with your students at Carnegie Mellon University.  We are hoping you can help us recruit your most passionate and accomplished students to join The Teacher Academy Residency and make a difference in the lives of Pittsburgh Public School students by becoming teachers in some of our highest-need public schools. The Teacher Academy is a highly-selective teaching program of Pittsburgh Public Schools, specifically designed for outstanding individuals who do not have a background in education. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, but do not need to have taken courses in education or have prior teaching experience.

Your students’ content knowledge and expertise in Mathematics and Science is needed in high-need classrooms throughout Pittsburgh to positively impact student achievement.

The Teacher Academy Residency office would like to partner with your department to promote our program.  As the spring semester approaches, we realize that many graduating students are beginning to think about their post college career.  Please forward this message to students and colleagues.  We encourage candidates to apply early, as we invite outstanding candidates to interview – and to join the program – on a rolling basis.

Residents of this elite cohort of outstanding new teachers will receive several unique benefits:

ü  Attend a pre-service training institute and induction
ü  Earn a full-time salary as a Resident Teacher while earning a dual teacher certification in special education and science, math or English.
ü  Participate in a year-long teacher residency program working side-by-side with some of Pittsburgh Public School’s master teachers
ü  Receive ongoing support and customized professional development

Your students are ready to make a difference and we need your help letting them know about this great opportunity.  If you any questions, please contact me at jdoyle1@pghboe.net, or 412-622-7317.
