Student Award for Educational Outreach & Service Learning

Nominations are due 31 March

Nominations for the Student Award for Educational Outreach & Service Learning are due March 31. The Gelfand Center will present up to three $250 awards on Monday, April 26. Nomination requirements include: a service learning and outreach resume; a personal statement; and two letters of support. For more specific details, contact Judith Hallinen.

Deadline for submission of applications:  March 31, 2010
 
Students will be recognized for outstanding commitment to society through participation in service learning courses and educational outreach activities that promote sharing of expertise in the community in a way that positively impacts individuals or organizations in the community.
 
Requirements:
Service Learning and Outreach resume that summarizes your work to improve the community* through service learning courses and educational outreach activities that are designed to share your knowledge, skills and/or excitement for learning  (Note: * community is defined in the broad sense as any place outside of Carnegie Mellon).  Your personal statement should address the following questions: 

How have you integrated service activities into your academic experience while at Carnegie Mellon?

What did you hope to accomplish in the community through this work?  (if you have participated in multiple initiatives, choose 1 as the focus, or if there is a theme to the work, write about all of them)

How has participation in service learning and/or educational activities impacted you?
Letter of support from an at least one external or internal contact who can describe your work with the community and the impact the work  (letters from external groups are preferred)  Letter(s) should be sent directly to Judith Hallinen via email or by mail to
