Can Tiryaki (BArch 98') has been selected as the first winner of the Delbert C. Highlands Travel Fellowship. Mr. Tiryaki's travel proposal, "Transitions in Religious Architecture in Asia Minor", will "research and document Byzantine churches in Asia Minor that were converted to Ottoman mosques." He will "focus on the insertion and configuration of religious markers in the space of worship, specifically "the Mihrab" - the Islamic prayer niche that marks the direction to Mecca."
