DAVID ROEDIGER, University of Illinois: “Race and the Management of U.S. Labor: Thinking Historically from Now to Then”
David Roediger is the Babcock Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he teaches history and African American Studies. He is author of many important books, including The Wages of Whiteness: Race and the Making of the American Working Class (New York: Verso, 1991) and more recently How Race Survived U.S. History: From Settlement and Slavery to the Obama Phenomenon (New York: Verso, 2008).
