Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Job Description:

The Department of Construction and Architectural Engineering at the American University in Cairo seeks one tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant, Associate Professor or Full Professor beginning in the Fall 2010. Applications are invited in the area of architectural digital media, CAD and/or computation in architectural design.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the exploration of digital design within the Bachelor of Architecture Program at the American University in Cairo, as well as to establish and pursue a research focus in an area of design computing (cognition, fabrication, representation, interaction, etc). She/he will be expected to lead an architectural design studio exploring architecture and computing, and teach courses in CAD, digital media and design computing topics. The applicant is expected to develop this area in the design studios to ensure that students acquire appropriate knowledge, understanding and skills. Preference will be given to candidates who can also cover other related areas in architecture. 

The candidate will be appointed by the Department of Construction and Architectural Engineering, which is rapidly expanding its facilities in this area. These include three state-of-the-art computing labs, a digital fabrication lab with a laser cutter and rapid prototyping, a CNC milling machine, and a vacuum-former; with the prospect for a render-farm.


Candidates must have a Doctoral Degree in Architecture. They should have significant academic experience in architectural digital media, CAD and/or design computing; preferably candidates with North American or similar experience. Of particular interest are candidates who demonstrate professional design excellence and integration of digital media and design computing in actual design projects.
