One Young World Summit

October 18-22, Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh will be the host city for the One Young World Summit on October 18-22 and I am writing to share a couple of opportunities for our CMU students to be involved in this event.

What is One Young World?  Think of DAVOS but for 21-30 year olds! Youth who have had a leadership impact on a broad range of issues coming together from around the world to participate in discussions with world leaders and like-minded individuals.

From the One Young World Pittsburgh Partnership, "The four-day Summit will serve as a platform for delegates, supported by high-profile counselors, to address and identify solutions to the same issues that world leaders tackle every day - including global business and health, education and sustainable development, unemployment, the role of government versus global business, leadership and governance and social business."

Keynote speaker is Bill Clinton, former USA President - and other speakers and guests identified as Counselors who are participating include: Jamie Oliver, Chef; Fatima Bhutto, Writer; Arianna Huffington, Founder and CEO Huffington Post; Jimmy Wales, Founder and CEO, Wikipedia  and more.

  • ATTEND THE SUMMIT: Application deadline is September 27 - Carnegie Mellon University, as one of the sponsors, will be providing the opportunity for one or two students to attend the Summit and will cover the cost of the registration fee. To indicate your interest please complete the application form. In addition to general demographic information you will need to include a 500 word statement responding to the following: Identify what you hope to gain from the Summit and how you will share this experience with the Carnegie Mellon community following the conference. Note that the dates of the Summit overlap with CMU's mid-semester break. The student who is selected to attend the Summit should expect to participate in all aspects of the program on all days and will be required to submit a report including summaries of the plenaries and sessions attended as well as overall impression of the Summit.  All applicants will be notified of the outcome of the application process no later than October 8th.
  • VOLUNTEER AT THE SUMMIT: There are many opportunities for volunteers from the Pittsburgh community. Register to be a volunteer.  The Volunteer Activity Descriptions are also available on this site.
