A Conversation with Photographer Iwan Baan

Friday, 21 September, 6:30pm, CMoA Theater

This inaugural conversation precedes the opening of a major architectural exhibition, White Cube Green Maze Exhibition at Heinz Architectural Center at the Carnegie Museum of Art.

Today a new type of museum is emerging—one that fuses inventive architecture and landscape design with radical conceptual and installation art. These sites typically mix old and new, featuring collaborative plans by several designers and encouraging exploration outdoors. White Cube, Green Maze: New Art Landscapes presents six such sites from around the globe: The Olympic Sculpture Park (USA); Stiftung Insel Hombroich (Germany); Benesse Art Site Naoshima (Japan); Instituto Inhotim (Brazil); Jardín Botánico de Culiacán (Mexico); and Grand Traiano Art Complex (Italy). The exhibition includes models and drawings by architects and landscape architects, as well as photographs of all six sites by renowned architectural photographer Iwan Baan. The opening event for this exhibition is a conversation with Baan. Exhibition galleries will be open until 9 p.m.

The exhibition presents works by:  Raimund Abraham (New York City); Tadao Ando (Osaka); Arquitetos Associados (Belo Horizonte); Tatiana Bilbao (Mexico City); Rodrigo Cerviño Lopez (São Paulo); Rudolf Finsterwalder (Stephanskirchen); Erwin Heerich (Düsseldorf); HHF architects (Basel); Oliver Kruse (Hombroich); Johnston Marklee (Los Angeles); Ryue Nishizawa (Tokyo); Rizoma Arquitetura (Belo Horizonte); Hiroshi Sambuichi (Hiroshima); Álvaro Siza Vieira (Porto); TOA (Taller de Operaciones Ambientales, Mexico City); Topotek 1 (Berlin); Weiss/Manfredi (New York City).

This exhibition is organized by Raymund Ryan, curator of architecture.
