Miller Gallery Seeking Gallery Assistant

Seeking motivated, dedicated and talented students from all academic departments to work as gallery assistants at the Miller Gallery.
Available shifts include Wed 11:45-3 + 3-6:15, Fri 11:45-3, Sun 3-6:15

Report to Exhibitions and Graphics/Office Coordinators.
Job includes:
Safe-guarding artwork and facilities. Interacting with the public, using good judgment in difficult social situations. Working receptions and special events (helping with set-up and clean-up, washing dishes, sweeping floors, taking out trash). Educating visitors about exhibitions and events. Sell store items and gallery memberships in gallery store. Installing and de-installing exhibitions. Performing gallery maintenance. Painting walls, and pedestals for new installations. Keeping tool room organized and safe. Operating and trouble-shooting audio-visual equipment (DLP projectors, computers, etc.), bucket-lift and other equipment. Opening and closing the gallery, understanding and using gallery alarm system. Running errands. Performing office tasks and other duties as assigned.
Desired skills:
Technical (A/V, video- editing, proficient with Adobe CS2/3 Mac and PC extensive knowledge of computer operation, basic digital photography). Construction (proficiency with power tools, table saw, chop saw, framing saw, etc.). Comfort using ladders and bucket lift, working at 20 ft. height.  Organizational (experience in gallery setting, art handling, making labels and mounts), and administrative (experience interacting with the public, familiarity with FileMaker Pro, working as part of a team).
Necessary skills:
Heavy lifting (as much as 50 lbs. at a time). Good communication and positive attitude in learning and performing duties listed above.
Art gallery experience. Work-study eligibility.
Necessary qualifications:
Hard-working, responsible, punctual, flexible to last-minute changes, disciplined and self-motivated, able to take direction and learn new skills, dedicated to working at an art gallery.
