The Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) began work with the UDBS in Homewood during the Fall of 2009. Interested in transit-oriented development around the MLK Busway, the URA owns the existing building at 524 North Homewood Avenue and would like to see the CAFÉ 524 be the first project in a series to develop Homewood's commercial corridor.

Operation Better Block (OBB) is a 501(c)(3) organization focused on improving the lives of Homewood-Brushton residents by promoting community growth and stability. Building ownership will be transferred to OBB upon completion of construction. They will own the cafe and use the space to host community meetings and events.

The cafe operators will be the Community Stewards Committed to Revitalization of the Inner City (CSCRI). Responsible for the cafe business plan, CSCRI will be developing models for community investment in the project as well as opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship in Homewood on a neighborhood scale.
