OPPORTUNITIES

The Carnegie Museum of Art is looking for student volunteers who can dedicate time in 4-hour chunks between Mon. Nov. 2 and Wed. Nov. 11 to help install an installation exhibit by world famous structural engineer, architect, and installation artist Cecil Balmond.  I attach an image from when the exhibit was at the Graham Foundation in Chicago.  It should be a great opportunity. You might get to meet Balmond, as he is coming at least one day. It looks like an interesting piece, as well.

Balmond works for the Arup firm in London and has helped shape some of the world's most famous buildings and structures over the past decades, including for Rem Koolhaas, Toyo Ito, Daniel Libeskind, Alvaro Siza, etc.  For an introduction to Balmond's work, click on the "read the story" link at the bottom. Then also click on the "Slide Show of Cecil Balmond's Work" button just to the right of the title for other images.

Details: Dates are Mon. Nov. 2 to Wed. Nov. 11, including Sat. Nov. 7. Work hours are daily 9-6. Minimum commitmenet is 4 hours, to get set up, trained, etc.  The museum will coordinate overall schedule of who can work when.  They are looking for “handy” architecture students or recent grads who are self-starters, work well with a small team to install this, etc.  As noted, the CMoA exhibit of this installation in the Forum Gallery opens to the public on Nov. 14. If nothing else, go to see the exhibit after it opens!  ** If you are interested, and can dedicate at least 4 hours, please get back to me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE by email (gutschow@andrew.cmu.edu).
