The Andy Award for Outstanding Dedication honors those who take great pride in their work. An unyielding commitment to quality performance allows them to unfailingly serve their customers. Nominees have a “can-do” attitude and consistently do whatever it takes to overcome obstacles in order to accomplish their goals. In some ways, they are the university’s unsung heroes because their continuously outstanding work may have been overlooked in the past.

Ari Blackford, School of Drama

Ari could be nominated in multiple categories, but Outstanding Dedication certainly is the most apt description of what she brings to her position. In her role as senior academic advisor in the School of Drama, she is always level-headed, calm and understanding, with a quiet strength that supports every individual. She solves problems, maintains a standard of excellence and inspires confidence in her ability to get things done, always seeing the job through, no matter how many hours it takes. She is absolutely an amazing addition to our department, and this nomination is a perfect way to say "Thank You."

David Casillas (MCS'08), Human Computer Interaction Institute

In David's position as support staff, he assists several faculty members of the HCII and the MHCI project course. David helps faculty solve problems in areas ranging from immigration, language, arrangements for visitors, interviews with participants, secure access to data, accounting procedures, housing, equipment and computer resources. David has consistently been highly motivated and energetic in his work. He is creative, punctual, collaborative, communicative, independent and shows leadership in everything he does. His dedication to our department and to CMU is exemplary.

Ronald Cunningham, Facilities Management Services

Customers breathe a big sigh of relief when Ron shows up to handle their work orders. He possesses a serious personal responsibility for the success of projects, and always handles them in a professional manner. Ron's attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction are impressive and give customers a strong sense of reassurance that their projects are in good hands. Ron's extraordinary pride and commitment to his work, colleagues, clients and Carnegie Mellon as a whole deserves to be recognized.

Nick Downing, University Advancement

Nick has the often-overlooked job of delivering crucial data and reports to the university's gift officers. He is quick to respond to requests and his attitude exemplifies the height of customer service. He is very helpful and always offers suggestions on how to work more efficiently and best utilize our databases. University Advancement is fortunate to have a selfless employee like Nick working within the delicate balance of technical expertise and attentive service to our office.

Meighan Lloyd, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering

Meighan is an embodiment of the kind of dedication and commitment that this award is meant to recognize. She does her job with precision and outstanding attention to detail. She is extremely knowledgeable, is on top of deadlines, delivers high-quality service and she gets the job done, all with a smile and pleasant disposition. I don't know how ECE would operate without her. Meighan is a unique asset to ECE and indeed to our university and I cannot think of a more deserving individual for this award.

Ann Marie is a conscientious worker of the highest degree. She consistently tackles each and every task with thoroughness, precision and positivity. Her problem-solving skills are unmatched. Her service to the University Libraries and her energetic attitude toward co-workers deserves to be recognized. Ann Marie makes Carnegie Mellon a better place to be for everyone who comes in contact with her.

David J. Randolph, School of Drama

Since he started at Carnegie Mellon in the late 90s, David has embodied positive energy and 110% commitment. He does whatever it takes to get the job done well, usually going above and beyond what is asked of him. His work ethic, combined with his sincere kindness, makes him one of a kind. David's genuinely unstinting care for his work and support of his colleagues make it difficult to imagine the School of Drama without him. I can think of no better recipient for this Andy Award.

Marilyn Walgora, Department of Computer Science

Marilyn continuously exceeds my expectations. She is absolutely reliable, efficient, extremely well organized and she takes initiative. She shows exemplary dedication to her job. I am always impressed with her pro-active and eager attitude, her accuracy and enthusiasm and with her willingness to go beyond the normal call of duty. Every time I see her, she is energetic, cheerful and is ready to help. Her dedication to the School of Computer Science and her unwavering enthusiasm for Carnegie Mellon deserves our applause.

Amy Wells, Department of History

Truly the unsung treasure of the history department, Amy is prompt, pleasant, meticulous and systematic in executing all aspects of her job. On top of that, she is unfailingly pleasant. Her contributions transcend her core responsibilities, and because of that, the entire department is able to perform to the best of their ability. We should all strive to emulate her professionalism and work ethic. Amy is the heart and soul of the history department. She embodies the qualities and attitude expected from an Andy Award winner.

Warren "Chuck" Whittaker, Robotics Institute

Chuck perfectly personifies the Outstanding Dedication category description. There are many times when we are at a loss for how to accomplish something and he magically finds a solution. His devotion and can-do attitude helps make everyone he works with truly believe that anything is possible. In particular, his recent work with the inaugural Girls of Steel robotics team and the Toyota Ideas for Good events stand out as prime examples of his commitment to success. He is fully deserving of recognition and this award.
