Student-Alumni Interaction Opportunities
Several ongoing programs exist to interact with today's students:
- Dinner with 12 Tartans: This monthly dinner series is designed to bring six students together with six alumni to share experiences and Carnegie Mellon stories over a meal. Dinners are held at various locations on campus.
- Slice of Life: The Slice of Life Program focuses on the transition from college life after graduation. We're currently looking for presenters for the conference sessions on January 30, 2010.
- Register for the online community, where you have an opportunity to connect with students and alumni.
Opportunities for collaborating with students organizations, presenting at student programs or facilitating student alumni interactions are always presenting themselves. Email Heather Andring for more information and to sign up.
Networking with Alumni
The Carnegie Mellon alumni network is one of the university’s great strengths. Our graduates have gone out in to the world and made a difference, and they are eager to share their experiences with current students. But how can you find the alumnus or alumna that you want to talk to? The Alumni Association offers the following resources to help connect students to the university’s alumni community:
LinkedIn
The Alumni Association maintains an alumni group with LinkedIn, the premier online professional networking website. All students, alumni, faculty and staff are welcome to join and find connections within the community.
Alumni Online Community
The Carnegie Mellon Alumni Online Community offers a number of resources to help you connect with alumni:
- A searchable online directory for alumni in geographic regions and industries of interest. Identify and contact specific individuals with your questions. The directory is a powerful tool in your career and network search.
- An email forwarding address. Your Andrew ID will expire when you graduate, so sign up for an email address that will be with you for a lifetime.
- The Alumni Career Advisor Network (ACAN) can find alumni who have opted into this system, specifically to mentor today’s students and fellow alumni.
Carnegie Mellon’s Network Nights
A long-standing tradition at the university for more than 20 years, these regional receptions have brought those seeking employment together with alumni and employers in an after-work reception. Network Nights are a series of annual events in major metropolitan regions including: Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington.
