CMU-R Students Gain Marketing Experience

A team of Carnegie Mellon University in Rwanda (CMU-R) students have worked to support the development of an advanced research and marketing system for VitalMeeting as part of their recent practicum.
The practicum, which was initiated by Eston Kimani, the CEO of a mobile communication firm Africa’s Talking Ltd, proved to be very popular to the student team. “It was a great opportunity to learn how to handle customer and user experience with VitalMeeting from Johannesburg, South Africa,” said Vanessa Umutoni, a member of the group that worked on the project.
The practicum would see students moving through many complex steps and processes to take the application to market. These included discovering potential clients and incorporating their feedback. The team, which also comprised of Esther Kunda, Fiacre Mushimirwe and Merab Twahirwa, used this feedback to build two different marketable products, one of which is a short private meeting platform and the other is a public platform serving different customer segments with different needs.
On completion of this practicum both the client and students were highly satisfied with the experience. The client received a refined version of VitalMeeting as well as a marketing strategy to assist in the rolling out of the product. The students were able to gain valuable experience marketing web applications, responding to client feedback and creating a final product focused on fulfilling the needs of clients.
