Applications:  We have used this device to identify a number of fugitive materials in a variety of artifact types including paintings, works on paper, sculpture and ethnographic objects, textiles, and photographs.  Also, the instrument has been used for material identification and prediction of light bleaching.  We plan to examine the pigments in Japanese woodblocks, paintings containing fluorescent pigments, and colored pencils using the micro-fading tester as well as studying the prospects of using the fading tester to predict the effects from museum exhibition.
