Hooding Ceremony
All candidates for the doctor’s degree will be individually hooded at a special ceremony at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, in Wiegand Gymnasium, first floor, University Center. The ceremony will last about 1-1/2 – 2 hours.
- Tickets are not required.
- The ceremony is open to all family and friends.
- Guest seating is first-come, first-served.
Degree conferral and diploma distribution will not take place this ceremony. All degrees will be conferred at commencement on Sunday, May 18, and diplomas will be distributed at department or college diploma ceremonies during the weekend.
Reception
A reception will be held in Rangos Hall, second floor, University Center, immediately following the hooding ceremony. All doctor’s candidates, their families, guests and ceremony participants are invited to attend.
For Doctor's Candidates, Faculty and Ceremony Participants
- Doctor’s candidates, participating faculty and other ceremony participants will robe in Rangos Hall, second floor, University Center.
- Robing and candidate pictures begins promptly at 7 p.m. and the procession at 7:45 p.m.

Doctor’s candidates and faculty, please be aware that each doctor’s candidate will be asked to invite a faculty member to assist in hooding him or her on stage during the ceremony. The faculty member may be that candidate’s adviser or another faculty member of the candidate’s choice.

Doctor’s candidates will be asked to confirm their participation in the ceremony and the name of the faculty member who will be hooding them by Friday, March 21. Contact your department's commencement coordinator to confirm your participation.

Doctor’s candidates who indicate that they will be attending the Doctor’s Hooding Ceremony will receive free announcements that can be used to notify/invite guests of the event. Announcements will be available in April via your department's commencement coordinator. Guests attending the ceremony do not need an announcement to attend the event.
