Contact: Carnegie Mellon's Center for Technology Transfer, Enterprise Creation Hosts Venture Capital Showcase Oct. 30
PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University's Center for Technology Transfer and Enterprise Creation (CTTEC) will host a technology conference for venture capitalists on Oct. 30 to showcase 14 new start-ups seeking funding. The invitation-only conference will bring in investors from within and outside the region to learn more about Carnegie Mellon's processes for evaluating technologies and the resources available through its Enterprise Creation program.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to see the newest innovations and emerging technologies seeking future investments. Selected companies in the Enterprise Creation program will demonstrate their technologies and present business concepts to seasoned investors.
"We are constantly seeking to build an institutional environment within which start-ups can be successfully formed and enter their initial high-growth phase," said Robert Lowe, director of Enterprise Creation. "Creating and building relationships with the investment community is a critical part of our job in technology transfer."
The event is the third in a series of CTTEC conferences intended to spur interest from investors and connect the university's world-class researchers with the business community. Past conferences were targeted at commercial banks and other lenders, technology-based economic development organizations, and foundations.
For more information, contact Lisa Palmieri at 412-268-1241. Media representatives are welcome, but they must preregister.

About the CTTEC: Carnegie Mellon's Center for Technology Transfer and Enterprise Creation helps faculty and students commercialize technologies developed on the university's campuses. CTTEC ("see-tech") recently changed its name from the Innovation Transfer Center to better reflect the myriad, valuable services provided, particularly for start-ups. CTTEC services and resources range from developing a commercialization strategy and assisting in intellectual property protection to providing financial and managerial resources for early-stage start-ups. CTTEC also works with outside companies, either established firms or start-ups, to promote the development and sale of new products and processes spawned by Carnegie Mellon inventions.
