Carnegie Bosch Institute Endows Five New Faculty Chairs At Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business

New Focus Emphasizes Interdisciplinary Research in Global Leadership and Sr. Executive Education

PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business and the Carnegie Bosch Institute for Applied Studies in International Management today announced five endowed appointments that constitute a new research committee at the institute focused on developing insights into the strategies and practices relevant to global business.

"Sixteen years ago, Bosch and Carnegie Mellon developed a compelling vision to study the world's leading business organizations and disseminate new ideas and techniques for the global marketplace," said Carnegie Mellon President Jared L. Cohon. "The distinguished faculty named to these endowed chairs will advance that goal, and their work will strengthen the link between academic research and the practice of management."

The appointments recognize individual faculty members for outstanding research applicable to solving problems in a dynamic and complex global business environment. The appointments are:

Sunder Kekre — Bosch Professor of Manufacturing and Operations Management and committee chair; director of the Center for Business Solutions.

R. Ravi — Carnegie Bosch Professor of Operations Research and Computer Science; associate dean for intellectual strategy.

Linda Argote — Carnegie Bosch Professor of Organizational Behavior and Theory; editor-in-chief of Organization Science; founding director of the Center for Organizational Learning, Innovation and Performance.

Don Moore — Carnegie Bosch Faculty Development Chair; associate professor of organizational behavior and theory.

Vishal Singh — Carnegie Bosch Faculty Development Chair; assistant professor of marketing.

"These endowed appointments represent a significant commitment of financial and organizational resources by the Carnegie Bosch Institute for the Tepper School, and we are grateful for the confidence they have in us," said Kenneth B. Dunn, dean of the Tepper School. "The talented individuals who were selected for these appointments exemplify the Tepper School's focus on how inquiry into the intersection of business and technology can help executives develop effective strategies for leading in an increasingly complex global environment."

As part of its new vision, the Carnegie Bosch Institute has also developed several leadership forums, including the flagship Global Leadership Executive Summer Forum. Delivered at the Tepper School, the four-week forum provides senior executives with opportunities for professional and personal growth. The institute also develops custom programs in response to corporate and academic requests. These efforts are led by Eva Maria Höller-Cladders, a senior Bosch executive appointed president of the institute.

"Through the institute's research and forums, we are looking for people from academia and business who have the desire and ability to reach out to other communities, to share findings and experiences," Höller-Cladders said. "These people challenge conventional views by looking beyond the scope of their current disciplines and expertise, solving new problems in innovative ways and then imparting new knowledge to society. This is what we mean by interdisciplinary. This is our vision for Carnegie Bosch Institute."
