Contact: Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School Hosts Connections Weekend for Prospective Minority MBA Candidates
PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business, the Black Business Association and the Latin American Business Club will host Connections Weekend 2006: A Weekend for Prospective African American, Hispanic American and Native American MBA Candidates. The 11th annual Connections Weekend will be held Oct. 6-8 in the Posner Center on campus.
Connections Weekend offers minority candidates a comprehensive look at life as an MBA student. During the three-day event, prospective students will attend workshops, panel discussions, case analysis exercises, classes and social activities. Candidates will also have an opportunity to talk with current students, faculty and alumni to learn about the Tepper School's culture and community.
"Diversity is more than numbers at the Tepper School. Our students are challenged to think broadly about diversity, not as a quota but as part of the increasingly complex business environment that leaders need to understand to be successful," said Colleen Smith, director of Diversity Strategies and Programs at the Tepper School. "We also work hard to help students forge key connections and relationships at school and in the greater community that will pay dividends long after they graduate."
The workshops for prospective students include "How To Be a Star MBA," "How To Be a Strong MBA Applicant" and "Financial Preparation for Your MBA."
Tepper is among 13 U.S. schools that belong to the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, a 40-year-old organization that promotes diversity and inclusion in American business. Connections Weekend is co-sponsored by Alcoa, PPG and Union Pacific.
