Contact: Information Networking Institute and Carnegie Mellon CyLab Partner With Alta Associates To Create Initiatives for Female Students
PITTSBURGH—The Information Networking Institute (INI) and Carnegie Mellon CyLab will announce a new partnership with Alta Associates' Executive Women's Forum (EWF) on Information Security, Risk Management and Privacy at the CyLab Partners Conference at noon on April 20. The alliance will advance partnerships between EWF participants and women in the INI and create three full-tuition scholarships to be awarded over the next three years to a female student enrolling in Carnegie Mellon's Master of Science in Information Security Technology and Management (MSISTM) program.
Alta Associates will name the first of the three full-tuition scholarship recipients in spring 2007 for the fall 2007 semester. The scholarship recipient will also be named an EWF fellow and will be mentored by a female EWF participant at a senior level in the information security field.
"The Executive Women's Forum's goal is to provide opportunities for women to continue to develop their careers in the field of technology risk management. The intention of this scholarship is to enrich both their profession and their lives," said Joyce Brocaglia, CEO of Alta Associates' Executive Women's Forum. "The EWF is committed to investing in the creation of future leaders. We are honored to partner with Carnegie Mellon to achieve this goal."
Alta Associates will also collaborate with Women@INI, a new organization for women graduate students in the INI, to create a mentoring program with EWF participants. Mentors will include a cross section of female security executives from the world's largest corporations, hottest new start-ups, academia and the government sector. The partnership will also encourage companies that recruit in EWF to recruit INI students.
"This partnership is an important step in attracting women to careers in information security," said Dena Haritos Tsamitis, director of the INI and director of education, training and outreach for Carnegie Mellon CyLab. "The scholarship will provide the means for women to study information security at the graduate level, and the mentor will show them the many facets and exciting future of information security. I believe this partnership will serve to retain women in the field and encourage growth."
