Contact: Carnegie Mellon's Data Storage Systems Center Seals Agreement With Singapore Science Lab
PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University officials will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with representatives of A*STAR — the Agency for Science, Technology and Research of Singapore — as a first step in the formation of a Ph.D. fellowship program on March 29 in the Singleton Room of the Roberts Hall of Engineering.
Since 1992, both Carnegie Mellon's Data Storage Systems Center (DSSC) and Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research have engaged in numerous scientific discussions and reciprocal visits to each other's labs. A delegation of researchers, led by Singapore's Lam Khin Yong, is attending the DSSC's 2006 spring technical review March 28-29.
The DSSC technical review is designed to showcase the center's ongoing research and to help industry design nanometer-scale technology that will ultimately lead to high-density, very fast, low-cost and compact information storage devices. The center's major educational goal is to prepare students for work in the information storage industry.
The DSSC also works closely with industry partners to define projects to help the $60 billion information storage market continue to grow and expand.
