Contact: Carnegie Mellon Center for the Arts in Society Kicks Off Conference with Indian Dance Performers
WHAT: The Center for the Arts in Society (CAS) at Carnegie Mellon University is hosting "(Im)permanence: Cultures In/Out of Time," an interdisciplinary, international conference on the relationship between art and time. The conference will open with "Varnam: Colors of South Indian Dance," a performance by Srishti Dances of India.
WHEN: The conference runs Oct. 13-16. The Srishti Dances performance is scheduled for 2 p.m., Oct. 13, in McConomy Auditorium in the University Center at Carnegie Mellon's Oakland campus. The conference keynote address will be given by Alan Lightman, novelist, essayist and physicist. Lightman will speak at 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at Kresge Recital Hall at Carnegie Mellon.
COST: The cost to attend the conference is $25 and $10 for students with ID. The keynote lecture is free.
