Carnegie Mellon University Appoints Deborah Moon As Chief Financial Officer

PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University has promoted Deborah J. Moon to vice president and chief financial officer.

Moon, who had been acting chief financial officer for Carnegie Mellon since April 2004, assumed her new position on Jan. 1, 2005. She will manage budgeting, financial operations, treasury, financial systems and campus services.

"We are extremely pleased to announce this promotion. Deb has established herself as a thorough professional with a strong understanding of the universityıs financial priorities," said Jared L. Cohon, president of Carnegie Mellon.

Prior to taking on the responsibilities of acting CFO last April, Moon had been assistant vice president for finance and controller for the university. She has been a member of the Carnegie Mellon staff since 2001.

Moon has more than 16 years experience in administration and finance, having spent most of her career at the Allegheny Health, Education and Research Foundation (AHERF) and KPMG's Higher Education Consulting practice.

A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Moon is a member of several national business organizations. She is frequently invited to make presentations about university and hospital research costs, compliance and management issues.
