Carnegie Mellon To Host Exposition
Showcasing Innovative Medical Devices
PITTSBURGHCarnegie Mellon University will feature some of the latest medical devices and diagnostic research under way in Western Pennsylvania January 17 at the second Medical Robotics and Information Technology for Medicine and Surgery Exposition. Among the innovative medical devices are a mobile robot that walks on the surface of the heart for use in minimally invasive cardiac procedures and a tiny artificial heart for use in infants. Other displays will include leading-edge surgical instruments such as the laprosert, a thin needle with a gun-shaped handle for inserting radiation seeds into deep tumors.
The exposition is being sponsored by Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute, the College of Engineering and the Medical Robotics Technology Center, a MERITS technology center.
