Carnegie Mellon Engineering Students To Test New Mobile Drum Carts For Rose Bowl-Bound Ambridge Area High School Marching Band

PITTSBURGH—On Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 12:30 p.m. Carnegie Mellon University Civil Engineering students will test 13 novel mobile drum carts designed to help the Ambridge Area High School Band march into the music record book at the 2004 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

The drum carts are the brainchild of Phil Clingman, a senior in civil and environmental engineering from Hobbs, N.M. Clingman and classmates Jared Deible, David Carothers, Julie Carroll, Landon Lochrie, James Corral and Brian Belowich worked with Ambridge band leaders and Larry Cartwright, a civil and environmental engineering instructor at Carnegie Mellon, to create an aluminum cart to carry 20- to 40-pound kettle-style drums for the 5.5-mile marching route at the 115th annual Rose Parade.

Between eight and 10 Ambridge High School band members will visit Carnegie Mellon to make final adjustments to the drum carts.

WHEN: 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9

WHERE: Room 107E, Porter Hall, Carnegie Mellon campus, near Schenley Park
