Carnegie Mellon Student Wins MTV Contest; MTV Comes to Carnegie Mellon to Shoot "Spin"

PITTSBURGH—A week before Dana Vinson, a junior ethics, history and public policy major at Carnegie Mellon University, was supposed to return to school, MTV and Spin magazine appeared at the doorstep of her suburban Ohio home to name her the winner of a nationwide essay contest. This week, MTV and Spin will wrap up the contest with Vinson at Carnegie Mellon.

Vinson was whisked off to Phoenix, Arizona, to go on the road with the Anger Management Tour featuring Papa Roach. As a budding music reporter, Vinson watched the show from backstage and stayed overnight on the Papa Roach tour bus. She interviewed the band as a group and individually. All the while, MTV cameras followed Vinson's every move.

"I can't even begin to describe how weird it all was, but so much fun," said Vinson.

The MTV and Spin camera crews will do a final shoot with Vinson to wrap up the contest on the Carnegie Mellon campus on October 25. Vinson will be interviewed about her experience as a reporter and will be presented with stacks of the December issue of Spin, which will contain her article on Papa Roach.
