Carnegie Mellon Engineering Students Showcase A New Race Car At The Vintage Grand Prix

EVENT: Carnegie Mellon University mechanical engineering students will showcase a homemade race car at the 20th annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. The students, led by Carnegie Mellon senior Dan Apone, will drive the Formula SAE race car in a pre-parade race celebration. The students are members of the Society of Automotive Engineers, an association dedicated to educating consumers about the motor vehicle industry. In addition to the race car, the students will exhibit an off-road vehicle used for a variety of collegiate race competitions. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix races and car displays benefit the Allegheny Valley School and the Autism Society of Pittsburgh. Drivers from more than 20 states and several foreign countries join a field of 160 race cars for the 2002 event that winds its way through Schenley Park.

WHEN: 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., Sunday, July 21.
