Undergraduates Showcase Research at Carnegie Mellon's Annual "Meeting of the Minds" May 7-8

EVENT: Carnegie Mellon University is well known as a research university but on May 7 and 8, it will be the students turn to share what they've developed and learned. The undergraduate research experience will be highlighted as part of the "Meeting of the Minds," a yearly program that allows students to present work on special projects. This year's theme is "think Out LOUD," and, with almost 500 student projects being exhibited, the event promises to be interesting and exciting.

There will be live performances, including video showings and performance art, as well as more traditional scientific presentations. Each college at Carnegie Mellon will be represented at the Meeting of the Minds, both by the research done by students, and by seven large "tower" structures explaining the creative process that students from each college go through.

This year, the Meeting of the Minds was organized and designed by a group of 40 students, representing different colleges and fields. Corporate sponsors for the event include ALCOA, Merck, IBM, Dell, Honeywell, Caterpillar and Motorola.

WHEN: Opening ceremonies for Meeting of the Minds will take place from 7-8 p.m., May 7, and will continue until 11 p.m. The symposium will continue from 10 a.m.-11 p.m., May 8.

WHERE: Meeting of the Minds will be held at the University Center on the Carnegie Mellon University campus.
