Carnegie Mellon Researchers Showcase New Information Technologies
For Use in Buildings, Bridges and Managing Construction Sites
PITTSBURGHCarnegie Mellon University's Advanced Infrastructure Systems lab, under the direction of James H. Garrett, associate dean of the College of Engineering and a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is developing computer-based systems and technologies to gain more information about bridges, buildings and other infrastructure systems in a more cost-effective and expedient way. For example, they are working on a wearable computer to support bridge inspections and construction supervisors. In addition, they are exploring the use of embedded, wireless sensors for gaining information about material quality during construction.
