Carnegie Mellon Heinz School Dean To Discuss Role of Cyber Terrorism in America's New War

PITTSBURGH-Carnegie Mellon University's Jeffrey Hunker is scheduled to speak at a seminar to help journalists provide better coverage about "Terror and Homeland Defense." Hunker, former senior director for Critical Infrastructure at the White House National Security Council from 1999-2000, will discuss how human wars are now entering a stage of information warfare. He will outline how the nation faces more sophisticated information intruders. These intruders are exploiting network interconnections and becoming more skilled at masking their behavior. He will also talk about some of the new cyber targets, including extortion attacks on individuals and attacks on computer printers and routers. The seminar is sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, the Radio-Television News Directors Association and the Associated Press Managing Editors.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m. 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6.
WHERE: Reserve Officers Association, 1 Constitution Ave., N.E., Washington, D.C.
