Tips and How To's
Steps to a Successful Science Project

1. Brainstorm for ideas for a project.

2. Research the topic you choose.

3. Decide on the problem, which is a question that must be answered by your project.

4. Develop a hypothesis or an educated guess that attempts to answer your question.

5. Determine the purpose of your project.

6. Gather all of your materials.

7. Write you procedures.

8. Start your experiment.

9. Collect data.

10.Analyze data in the form of tables and graphs.

11.Draw conclusions about your project. Conclusions are overall summaries of what happened, including if your hypothesis was supported or non-supported.

"Make a schedule of when you are going to work on your science fair project and what you are going to do each time." You can download empty planners here.

"Seek help from sources outside of school, such as a mentor or a professional in your field of interest."

"Always dress to impress during a science fair. Don't show up in jeans and a T-shirt."

"Never be afraid to ask for help. There is no such thing as doing too much research. The more research you have on your project the better you are at understanding it."

"Take lots and lots of notes! You don't want to seat down to write your report and realize you've forgotten all the data, when you did it, what weighed what and under which conditions, etc."

"Remember, when it comes to your project you are the expert. You should be able to thoroughly explain it. So study, study, study!"

"Practice your speech in front of your family, friends, teachers, neighbors, mirror, and even pets! Ask for feedback."

"Be patient. You will make mistakes, but don't be afraid to try again."
