Responsibility
Our program is based on individualized experiences for each of our students therefore
your child is faced with adequate responsibility towards his or her project. We strive to
project that the sucess of the project depends on the commitment of the student and the
importance of accomplishment and effort and, as
such, the time spent at MSOP tends to become a learning experience in more ways than simply academic.
We hope that you as the parent will support this point of view and will instill and re-inforce in your child
during their time with us the sense that starting a project means commiting to
carrying through and will recognize them for their perseverance and accomplishments.
Applying for competitions is the responsibility of the student; we will discuss which competitions to
attend and how to apply but nonetheless it is the student's responsibility to fill and turn in the appropriate
applications.
Safety & Regulations
Research at MSOP occurs always in a supervised situation for the safety of everyone involved.
It is a privilege for our students and for us to be at MSOP doing research, it is expected of the students
to behave properly when in the Mellon Institute building and particularly within the teaching laboratory.
This is for the safety of everyone in the laboratory. Behaving properly means: not
making noise or running across the corridors, not wandering around the building, etc.
Attendance is mandatory as per the Contract of Attendance. Students will be excused in situations of
dangerous weather and family emergencies. In these cases, the parents or guardians should call us
to let us know our students are safe.
